I took this photo yesterday and loved it.  That is a rare occurrence.  I have over 400 photos on the memory card in my camera right now and I probably only love about 3 of them.  Well, except for the photos of my children – I love them all whether they are good photos or not.  So, I was all set to post this photo today…and then I showed it to my husband.  To him this is a mostly out of focus photo of a piece of plastic spiral thing from a notebook.  I started questioning myself.  Should I post this?  Will everyone that sees it think, “Why didn’t she just throw it away?”  This actually almost brought me to tears.  How do you put it out there and not care whether others like it or not.  Is the fact that I like it enough?  The story of my life.

Something I’ll ponder over the weekend, probably while I’m taking more photos of useless items that I think are cool!  Happy Friday and Happy Weekend!

The next one is in my kitchen.  I think I’m starting to understand why I have read that you must use a tripod when you shoot macro.  I didn’t use one.

I am loving this lens!  It is a 50mm f2.0 macro lens.  I am a huge fan of shallow DOF, so I don’t know if I’ll ever take it off of the 2.0 setting!  I never thought I would have a lens like this and I surely would never have bought it for myself.  Sometimes my husband is too good to me.  I can’t wait to explore more of the world with this lens!

Yesterday I turned 47.  My sweet husband and kids totally surprised me with a new lens for my camera!

They gave it to me last night, so I haven’t had much time to play with it yet.  It’s the fastest lens I’ve ever had and I was able to shoot both of these photos hand held, indoors, without a flash!  I have a bunch of work to get done before I play, so hopefully I can be speedy! I am crocheting a round afghan!  I’m not crazy about the solid blue sections.  I had hoped that when I finished the rounds of varied color yarn, the blue would look more like it belonged.  Once I finished the first rounds of varied color and saw that the blue still wasn’t making me happy, I considered ripping it all out and getting rid of the blue, but that thought passed in about a half a second!  My kids like the way it looks, and I promised the afghan to my youngest son, so as long as he likes it, I like it!  The pattern I’m using is the Stratford Circle Afghan by Lion Brand.  I chose different colors than they specified and I’m using a smaller crochet hook than specified to get the correct gauge.  I’m really enjoying making it except that my right thumb joint has gotten really sore, so I’m taking some time off of working on it.  Our weather forecast for the next four to five days is rain, rain, and more rain.  I hope my thumb is up to getting back to work!

Luckily, I have yarn and I’m in the process of making a crochet afghan.  And!  I have the book Understanding Shutter Speed by Bryan Peterson that I bought with a gift certificate!  (Bryan Peterson, please move into the house next to mine and teach me how to use my camera.)  And!  I have some other books that were given to me and some others that I bought with that same gift certificate!

I won’t be reading the books just yet, I’ll be practicing creative shutter speed techniques with them!
