Since I downloaded an update to my computer security, my computer keeps freezing up and it won’t accept any photos from my camera.  I need to find a remedy to this before Pet Parade day!

We have been having some gloriously hot weather!  Everyone around me complains, but I love it!  I think I was meant to live in the desert.  Tomorrow we’re supposed to have showers, thunderstorms and downpours.  I just hope it all holds off until my son is finished with his driving test!  It’s at 1pm tomorrow!  Why am I using exclamation points?  I don’t know, because that means he will be able to go off in my car without another adult.  Yikes!

Slip 'n Slide in our backyard

My youngest child, my baby, (he’s twelve) is in day camp for two weeks.  It’s for kids entering grades 6 through 9.  They go somewhere every day.  They’ve been to an amusement park (my son’s favorite trip so far) and places with arcades and bumper cars and go-karts and laser tag.  Today is bowling, paintless paintball (what the heck is that?), laser tag and arcade games.  Yesterday was a day he skipped.  It was to a go-kart racing track.  The carts look like race cars and go 40 mph.  The tracks are 24 feet wide and over 1/4 long with all kinds of twists and turns.  It sounds like fun, a lot of fun, BUT, there is this little matter of the waivers that need to be signed in front of witnesses.  One needs to be signed by the parents and one needs to be signed by the child.  The waivers explain all of the dismemberment, paralysis and death that can occur on the racetrack.  They say that you need to inspect the track and the karts to be sure all are in sound working order!  You need to assess the other drivers to be sure they are behaving responsibly!  Ha!  44 kids aged 10 through 14?  Oh, and the child also must agree (by signing) that their next of kin can not sue.  My child was not thrilled with all the talk of dismemberment, paralysis and next of kin.  He skipped the trip.  I didn’t make him go.  My husband was (is) peeved.  Sigh.

I realize that there are no guarantees.  Every day is a gift and who knows what will happen whether we’re at a race track or in our own yard.  But thank goodness we don’t have to sign a waiver like that every morning.

My 17 year old son signed up for Facebook a couple of weeks ago.  Before that he had no interest in it.  Then, a couple of weeks ago a girl he knows at school told him he had to get on Facebook.  Now he’s on it all the time.  Thanks a lot, girl that I’ve never met.  And, yes, it does bother me just a bit that some other female, not my boy’s mommy, told him he had to do something.  Sigh.  I guess I’m lucky he’s not dating, yet.  He is finished with 11th grade!  His last test was last Friday.  Now he’s got piles of summer homework.  Because our school year begins later than in other parts of the country (after Labor Day) the kids that are going into AP classes need to start their work during summer vacation in order to be ready for the AP exams in May.  Better him than me!

My 12 year old son does have Lyme Disease.  I’m glad we caught it early and he is on antibiotics.  He has finals at school this morning and tomorrow morning.  Then, summer fun! (Oh, and summer homework because he is going to be in two accelerated classes next year.  Work, Work, Work!)

My 14 year old daughter is taking a Spanish final today and rehearsing for her 8th grade graduation, which is on Wednesday!  Then, summer fun!  Reading is the only summer work for her. Her two assigned books for summer reading are A Tree Grows In Brooklyn and Fahrenheit 451.

The randomness of this week:

My 17 year old son is finished with 11th grade, except for state tests of which his last is Friday morning.

My 14 year old daughter finishes 8th grade tomorrow, except for her foreign language test on Monday, and graduation rehearsal on Monday.  Then, graduation next Wednesday!!!  She will then officially be a high school freshman!

My 12 year old son finishes 7th grade next Tuesday.  He might have Lyme Disease.  I’m bringing him to the doctor after school today.  I can’t stand tics. 

I had to fend off two hawks yesterday morning.  This is ridiculous!  I let Timmy outside and a couple of seconds later heard the screech of a hawk.  I ran out (in a towel because I had just gotten out of the shower!) and two hawks flew over.  One was making a circle, so I waved my arms and yelled at it to go away!  It did.  Thank goodness my backyard is private!  I hope Google Earth’s satellite wasn’t taking a photo at that moment!

I’m subscribed to my own blog by email and I just realized I don’t receive my posts!  I wonder if I somehow marked myself as spam.  Sigh.

We bought my husband the game Molkky for Father’s Day!  It looks like a cool family game.  Hope he likes it!

I’m knitting something!  I have trouble with knitting, but I’m really liking the simple pattern.  It’s the Long Beach Washcloth by Lion Brand.  (I didn’t make this a link because I think you have to be registered and logged on to Lion Brand to view it.)  I’ll try to take some time this week to take photos of what I’ve been making to show you!

The guy that hit him was driving a Kia Sportage.  The roads were wet from some light drizzle and he told my husband that his car went out of control.  And, he said it wasn’t the first time it happened.

We had been thinking about looking at a used Sportage for my teen-aged son who is soon to get his drivers license.  Needless to say, that car is off of our list.  I think maybe a tank.

Yes, thankful is our word for today.

Update:  Thankfully, my husband is okay!  Bumps, bruises and some cuts, plus a throbbing shoulder.  The other driver was okay, too.  I’ll let you know more later or tomorrow.  Thank you so much for your well wishes!!!

Our weekend was a good one!

We took my husband’s parents out for Thai food on Saturday night.  It was a fun time, but the food was kind of tasteless.  I was disappointed.  I don’t think that’s normal for Thai food.

My daughter and I planted flowers,

My youngest son and I planted vegetable plants,

We went to a garden center and my kids bought me a pretty Mother’s Day plant, (hubby was too sick last weekend to go then.)

I spent some time with my camera.  That time was good, too, until I transferred the photos to my computer and didn’t like most of them.  Sometimes that really bugs me!

Well, my never nervous about tests son is slightly nervous.  He will be taking his AP US History test tomorrow and his AP Biology test on Monday.  The courses were extremely rigorous and he has worked hard and done really well in them, so I don’t think he has anything to worry about.  Good luck to all those test takers!  I hope the sun is shining on you!
