I’ve done two and the easiest explanation I can give you is this. This is the way I did it, and it works out, although more experienced crocheters may have done it different:

Your 4dc are ALL in that first 3ch from hook.
Then you do ALL 4dc in the NEXT chain down of your 22ch starting chain and so on. I work in the bump at the back of the chain. It makes it so much easier.
Don’t even bother counting “1,2,3 chain from hook”, just do your 4dc , 4ch nub in EACH chain back down to where you started your chain.

Hi Gayle,

I guess I’m like Alysen but she figured it out and I can’t.
I ‘m so sorry but I just don’t understand the pattern.
I’m a beginner and not good at reading the patterns
yet. But I’am learning. I just dont understand how you
work in the ch 22., how you got to the 3rd picture you show
If you could please explain I would be very great ful. I love
the trees soooooo much that I want to make them.

Just to say that I did figure out the 3ch thing with trial & error.

I love these Xmas trees, but I just cannot figure out where that 3rd chain from hook is, looks like the first 4 subsequent dc are all in that 1st dc??
I’m a very visual person, any other step by step pics handy? Or do I just do the trial & error method? The other prob I’m having is – do I just dc directly in the next chain down the original 22 from the 4th dc?
I must need crochet for dummies, as I see I’m the only one confused?

crocheting isn’t hard really with yarn. It’s the thread that it gets difficult. I actually started with thread and went to yarn. It’s like the toy potter’s wheel I started on and then in high school I got to use a real potter’s wheel. The art teacher told me I actually started on the most difficult wheel possible! LOL
