As far as I can remember, I have never crocheted or knit anything for myself! Isn’t that weird? (Oh, wait, the plarn bag I made is for the whole family to use!) A couple of weeks ago Shalet of Peculiar Momma posted photos of a dishcloth she knitted and I was smitten with it! I wanted to make one immediately! Shalet was kind enough to post a link to the pattern she used. I checked it out immediately! I was making that sucker! I knew it was going to be a knit pattern, okay, I think I can handle knit. If it’s simple. Uh Oh, it used two different yarns. My dishcloth bubble burst. But now I was in the mood to knit. I love the sound of the needles rubbing against each other. It reminds me of being a child again, sitting with my mom while she knit, listening to the needles. (I was probably playing with my Barbies.) I thought I would try a simple seed stitch that I found in a booklet of knit stitches. I cast on too loosely. My stitches started falling off of the back end of the left needle as I knit. My hands didn’t work right! I felt like I had ten thumbs, or no thumbs! I knit a few rows. I felt like tossing it out the window. This was not working. This was supposed to be relaxing. I ripped it out. That felt sorta good.
Sugar ‘n Cream cotton yarn, color #00222, Butter Cream Ombre.
Granny Square Dishcloth pattern on the label.
I got out my trusty crochet hook and used the pattern on the yarn label. Ahhhhh, much better. I did this while watching the end of a werewolf movie with Jack Nicholson and Michelle Pfeiffer on TV. All by myself. My husband was on his computer, my kids were entertaining themselves…it was such a relaxing evening!
I am working on my second dishcloth now. It is Sugar ‘n Cream cotton yarn, color #00144, Strawberry. The pattern I’m using for this one is on the label of color #00133, Shaded Denim.
You can find the patterns I used on the Sugar ‘n Cream website, but you have to register with their site to view them.
Have you had a relaxing evening lately?

Love it! My bff knits me a dishcloth for every occasion. I wish I could return the favor. It is on my list of things to learn before I die. Your work is absolutely beautiful.

Hi Shannon!
Thank you!
If you ever need any help with crocheting, just ask! Knitting? I’m mostly lost! But I’m not giving up! I will try again, sometime!

Ahh, knitting is easy! It comes more naturally to me than crocheting, but then again, I just learned to crochet. Anyway, all I’ve really learned to crochet so far is granny squares. Right now I’m making a huge blanket for my bed – it’s white, and going to be one giant granny square. I think it will look really pretty with a light blue or yellow sheet underneath it, so you get a bit of color showing through.
Anyway, perhaps after that’s done I’ll make some dishclothes.

Those are turning out gorgeous! I can’t even begin to tell you how happy my dishcloths make me. I get a little thrill when I walk into the kitchen!! Enjoy yours and don’t hesitate to use them!!!

Hi Shalet!
I’m so glad you inspired me to make these! I do love the one that I have finished! I haven’t used it yet, I just have it hanging in the kitchen for now.

Absolutely lovely! I wonder if I still know how to crochet after all these years (more than 20)…, maybe it’s like riding a bike, you never forget. Have to try it one day.

Your stitches are so even! Do you use these as dishcloth, as in get them wet and wipe things with it? I didn’t know you can do that with yarn!
My friend made me a couple as pot holders.

A friend made me two for Christmas, but I can’t bring myself to use them! I knit, but can’t crochet. It’s looks so much more fun! Beautiful work.

Good for you! I haven’t knit or crocheted in ages but I always loved the feel of the yarn. I could never figure out directions for anything other than granny squares so that’s why I never continued

Hi Maya!
I think it would come back to you. I learned from my mom when I was a kid and then didn’t crochet again until about 5 years ago. I bought a simple learn to crochet book to remind me of how to do it and it all came back to me!
Hi vchelle!
I do feel soothed with I crochet! It’s wonderful!
Hi Chocolate and Whine!
I am really loving the colors, too! Thanks!
Hi katy!
Thank you! These are made with 100% cotton yarn, so they can get wet and really be used as dishcloths. So far I haven’t used mine that way, because I think they’re too pretty! I’m kind of defeating the purpose! There is a pattern for pot holders on one of the yarn labels. I might try that, too!
Hi Gayle!
Wow! I don’t see many people that spell Gayle the same way as I do!
I haven’t used mine yet either! They are just too pretty! I really enjoy crochet. It is faster and easier than knitting for me.
Hi Diane!
If you ever want to pick up crocheting again, let me know if I can help!
Hi Puna!
I was never in 4-H. Did you learn crocheting or knitting there?

Hi paula!
Thank you!
Hi Christine!
Let me know if you need any advice on crocheting!
Hi Se’Lah!
An aunt of mine has quilted for a long time. That looks so hard to do. I’m not the best with sewing and don’t enjoy it. I always end up sticking myself with the needle and pins! Can’t wait to see what you make!
