This is the screen on our elliptical machine. We bought it last January with all kinds of wonderful talk about staying in shape during the winter months of doing nothing. I did use it. I told it my name! I told it how I wanted to start off with 20 minute workouts that were very easy. I even did those workouts. I even managed to get to the point that I was able to do it’s pre-programmed 30 minute Cardio, Strength and Interval Training workouts. And then I stopped. I don’t remember why. Probably I got a cold or something and decided to take a few days off. And. That. Was. The. End.
Oh, I have gotten back on it occasionally. Never for more than three days straight. There’s always something else to do. There are fun things like crocheting and reading and doing things with my kids. There’s playing with Timmy. There is cooking. I like to cook most of the time! There are the regular obligations and chores that are not fun, but that have to be done. But my elliptical machine remembers my name and welcomes me when I do come back to it. Maybe it would be better if it scolded me for being away so long. Maybe it should remind me of the medical problems that exercising might ward off. Maybe it should sweet talk me and tell me how great I am when I do get on it! Maybe it should offer to clean the toilets and vacuum for me if I spend 30 minutes a day with it! Yes! That might work! But, that’s not going to happen.
Therefore, I am not, in front of all of you, resolving to spend 30 minutes a day with my elliptical machine in 2009. Nope.
Is there anything you’re not resolving to do in 2009?
