The Power’s Out Again? Yes!

Unrelated Cloud Photo, just because I like it!

I mentioned here and on Twitter that our power was out for 16 hours this past weekend.  When my husband and I moved to this house we had one son and I was pregnant with our daughter.  The first year in our house, our power went out, for a significant amount of time, seven times! Things got a little better in the following years and now we seem to lose power a few times a year.  After that first year my guy got us a generator.  When the power goes out we use the generator for a couple of hours at a time.  Most importantly it operates our heat, our well and our refrigerators.  Because my husband was the person hooking the generator up, it also operates the TV! (A few lights also.)  Of course, almost always when the power is out, our cable is out, too.  But we can watch dvds.

So this weekend we lost power at about 7pm.  We watched a couple of dvds, all five of us…in the same room… together!!!  Usually my oldest son and my guy go in their own directions, while myself and my daughter and youngest son do things together.  After dvds my guy had had enough togetherness so he turned off the generator and he went to bed!  It was just me and my babies!  Don’t tell them I called them babies! The four of us sat in the candle-lit living room and talked for a couple of hours.  There was some bickering, but not too much.  It was wonderful.  These are the times that fill my heart and I hope that they are the times that my children remember years from now.

    Hi ELK!

I like the way my hair turned out. The real test is tomorrow morning when I try to get it to look good myself!

oh i love these clouds too.

Your children will remember those times with fondness. I remember the times when the power went out in our house growing up. My dad would gather up all the candles (ones we hand-dipped) and the kerosene lanterns and make the house all warm with glow. He loved to revert back to the ways of the olden days, so he made us feel like it was an adventure too.
