Apple Picking!

October 20th, 2008 · 1 Comment

We went apple picking on Saturday.  There’s a small farm/orchard close to our house that we go to.  We have liked going there in the past because of it’s smallness and the fact that not many people go there.  Well, that has changed.  This year there were a lot of people.  They used to have just one small parking area, now they have three.  They’ve got hay rides going and a huge pumpkin patch and a new building.  I know that it’s good for the family that owns it, but I was disappointed.  It used to be so quaint.  I guess everything has to change.  We did have fun anyway.  We picked out two pumpkins and lots of apples!

We probably should have gone a few weeks ago.  A lot of the apples were up too high to reach.  We saw lots of apples on the ground and so much poison ivy.  Why does poison ivy always seem to be growing around apple tress?

Poison Ivy and Fallen Apples

My oldest son didn’t come with us.  He had been out all morning to take the PLAN test (it’s a pre-ACT test) and wanted to enjoy the rest of his Saturday, not be stuck with us!  I missed him but we did have a fun time anyway.

As you can see from these photos, most of the people were not apple picking, they were hay-riding and browsing the pumpkin patch.
