A Ten (Almost Eleven) Year Old Chef

August 8th, 2008 · 3 Comments

My ten year old son has been watching the Food Network this summer.  Watching the TV chefs has motivated him to create some interesting snacks for himself.  He has created snacks ranging from:

A chip dip – made with sour cream, Cajun seasoning, ground cayenne pepper (he is not afraid of spice!) and lemon juice

To:

Leftover thin-sliced chicken with dill placed on a soft flour tortilla, spread with GRAPE JAM.

I tasted the chip dip; it was pretty good.  I did not taste the chicken/jam combination.

A couple of days ago he remembered Paula Deen’s recipe for Brown Sugar Chewies* that we made a while ago.  He decided to make them all by himself this time.

In Progress!

Please pretend that you didn’t notice that I really need to clean my stovetop.

He did a great job and we finished them off in one evening.  (We being the chef, my husband and myself.)  A certain daughter of mine ate a small piece and declared them too buttery.  A certain teen-aged son looked at them and walked away. -Sigh-

*He made them without the pecans, he doesn’t like nuts in things.
